Part of Staying in Antwerp for work
Where do contractors and shutdown crews stay near the port of Antwerp?
Most contractors and shutdown crews in Belgium stay in hotels, shared worker houses or furnished apartments within driving distance of the site. For the Antwerp port, choose by road distance to your gate, bedrooms per person and laundry. Hoost offers project accommodation in Antwerp: four apartments in one building next to the Kennedytunnel.

You are planning a shutdown, a turnaround or a long maintenance job in the Antwerp port area. Your crew needs beds from a fixed date. The site has no housing of its own, hotel rooms add up fast, and every extra kilometre comes back twice a day.
What are the contractor accommodation options in Belgium?
Contractor accommodation in Belgium comes in three main forms: hotels, shared worker houses and furnished apartments. Hotels suit short jobs of a few nights. Worker houses put many people under one roof at a low cost per bed. Furnished apartments sit in between: each team gets its own kitchen, bedrooms and front door.
The right choice depends on the length of the job, the crew size and how much privacy people need after a twelve-hour shift. For a wider look at the areas companies use, read our guide on where to stay in Antwerp for work. If you are weighing apartments against hotel rooms on cost and comfort, our comparison of corporate housing and hotels goes deeper.
Contractor accommodation types compared
| Hotel | Shared worker house | Furnished apartments (Hoost) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical use | A few nights | Large crews, weeks | Small teams, 2 nights to 6 months |
| Kitchen | Rarely | Shared by many | Own kitchen per apartment |
| Bedroom | Own room | Often shared | Own bedroom for up to 7 people in the building |
| Laundry | Paid service | Varies | Shared washer and dryer in the building |
| Workspace | Desk at best | Rarely | Workspace with Ethernet in every apartment |
| Invoicing | Per room | Varies | One company invoice |
What do shutdown crews need from contractor accommodation?
Shutdown crews need contractor accommodation that lets them sleep well, eat properly and get to the gate without detours. In practice that means a bed per person, a kitchen for early breakfasts and laundry for work clothes. A predictable road to the site matters just as much. The paperwork side, with one invoice and one contact, matters to the project office.
A few points come up in almost every crew booking:
- Sleep. Shift workers sleep during the day as well. Separate bedrooms help more than any other feature.
- Food. A full kitchen cuts the cost and time of eating out every night.
- Workwear. Overalls need washing several times a week, not once a fortnight.
- Supervisors. The site lead often has reports to file at night, so a real desk and a wired connection help.
- Flexibility. Shutdowns slip. Dates that move by a few days are normal, so ask how changes are handled.
Demand for this kind of stay is not going away. The Port of Antwerp-Bruges says Antwerp is home to the largest integrated chemical cluster in Europe, and those plants all need planned maintenance. At Doel, the nuclear regulator FANC approved the restart and operation of Doel 4 until 2035. All safety improvements must be carried out by 2028.
How far is Antwerp South from the port, Doel and BASF?
Antwerp South is on the south side of the ring, next to the Kennedytunnel, which is about 3.2 km by road from the Hoost building. That makes it quick for the Left Bank and the south-side employers, but it is not in the port. Doel and BASF are each about 30 km by road, on the far ends of the port.
Road distances from the Hoost building (fastest car route, no traffic)
| Destination | Road distance |
|---|---|
| Hoboken | about 2.1 km |
| Kennedytunnel | about 3.2 km |
| Umicore Hoboken | about 4.5 km |
| Blue Gate Antwerp | about 4.7 km |
| Agfa-Gevaert Mortsel | about 5.5 km |
| Zwijndrecht | about 7.8 km |
| ExxonMobil refinery | about 12.9 km |
| Kallo | about 13.4 km |
| TotalEnergies refinery | about 15.9 km |
| Deurganckdok | about 20.7 km |
| BASF Antwerpen | about 29.0 km |
| Doel nuclear plant | about 29.6 km |
These are distances, not travel times. Traffic at the tunnels varies a lot, so check a live route planner for your shift times. Our guide from Antwerp South to the port covers the tunnels and roadworks.
Note
If your crew works at Doel or BASF every day, a base closer to the north of the port may save driving. Hoost makes the most sense for the Left Bank, Hoboken, Wilrijk, Mortsel and the south of the city.
How does contractor accommodation in Antwerp South work at Hoost?
Contractor accommodation at Hoost means four furnished apartments in one building at VIIde-Olympiadelaan 19, near Middelheim Park. There is one 1-bedroom apartment for up to 2 guests and three 2-bedroom apartments for up to 4 guests each. With the whole building, up to 7 people get their own bedroom, or up to 14 people if they share.
Every bedroom has a double bed, so sharing means sharing a bed. Most crews therefore book one person per bedroom. Each apartment has a kitchen, bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi, a workspace with Ethernet, heating and a TV. A shared washing machine and dryer are in the building.
How a stay runs:
- Arrival. Self check-in with a lockbox, from 15:00. Check-out is by 11:00.
- Length. From 2 nights to 6 months per booking.
- Invoicing. Company invoicing is available, so the project office gets one invoice.
- Getting around. Trams 2 and 6 stop near the building. P+R Olympiade is close by and paid parking is nearby.
- Low-emission zone. The building is outside the Antwerp LEZ. Driving into the centre inside the ring does enter it.
Tip
Ask us about the things that matter for shift work. Think of parking a van in the street, swapping named crew members within one booking, or arriving outside the usual times. Send your dates and crew size and we will answer for your case.
Which paperwork comes with a crew from abroad?
A crew from abroad usually needs a Limosa declaration before work starts in Belgium. The official Working in Belgium site says the foreign employer files it, and the proof must be shown to the Belgian client before work begins. Self-employed workers in construction, meat processing and cleaning must declare too.
Our guide to the Limosa declaration for posted workers explains who must file, what details you need and the exemptions. The place of work goes into the declaration; the accommodation address does not.
When Hoost is not the right choice
Hoost is not the right choice for every crew. With four apartments, the building fits a small team, not a crew of thirty. Look elsewhere if you need one of the following.
- beds for more than 14 people, or more than 7 private bedrooms;
- parking on site for several vehicles;
- address registration (domicile) for crew members;
- daily housekeeping or hotel services;
- one booking longer than 6 months;
- a base right next to Doel or BASF.
For a larger team, one option is to split the crew. Supervisors and engineers stay in apartments, the wider crew closer to the site. Our guide on business stays in Antwerp compares the areas.
Frequently asked questions
Can a crew stay longer than six months?
One booking at Hoost runs from 2 nights to 6 months. A longer project continues with a new booking, subject to availability.
Can crew members register their address at the apartment?
No. Address registration (domicile) is not possible during a stay at Hoost, so the registered address stays in the home country or elsewhere.
Is cleaning included during a long shutdown?
There is no daily housekeeping. On longer stays, extra cleaning can be arranged roughly every two weeks, at extra cost. Bed linen and towels are provided at the start of the stay and are not changed during it.
Can we park a company van near the building?
There is no parking on site. P+R Olympiade is nearby and there is paid parking in the area. Ask us about vans before you book, because vehicle size has not been confirmed.
