When someone close to you is in hospital, the days revolve around visiting hours and appointments. A hotel room gets small quickly. An apartment gives you a kitchen, a table to sit at together and a door you can close in the evening.

Accommodation near an Antwerp hospital for families visiting a patient

Accommodation near an Antwerp hospital should make the practical side easier, so your energy goes to the patient. Our apartments are in one building at VIIde-Olympiadelaan 19, in Antwerp South near Middelheim Park. The ZAS Middelheim site is the closest of the large hospitals.

Hoost is independent of the hospitals. We have no agreement with ZAS or UZA; we are simply nearby. What we offer is a furnished home for the length of the stay:

• A kitchen in every apartment, so you can cook simple meals instead of eating out every night.
• Self check-in with a lockbox, from 15:00. You do not have to meet anyone after a long day on the ward.
• A double bed in every bedroom, and up to 4 guests in the two-bedroom apartments.
• A shared washing machine and dryer in the building, which matters when a short stay turns into weeks.
• A workspace with Wi-Fi and Ethernet, if you keep working between visits.
• A cot and a high chair on request.

How far is each hospital from the apartments?

The ZAS hospitals in the south of Antwerp are all within about 2.3 km of the building. UZA, the university hospital in Edegem, is a little further. ZAS lists ZAS Middelheim and the ZAS Paola children’s hospital at the same address, Lindendreef 1.

These are straight-line figures, not travel times. ZAS also runs other sites across the city, so check which one your appointment is at on the list of ZAS locations. Visiting hours differ per site and per ward; ZAS sets them out on its visitor planning page.

The right apartment depends on how many of you come, and for how long. All four have a kitchen, a workspace and linen and towels.

Getting to the hospital, and parking

There is no parking at the building and no free street parking. P+R Olympiade is about 0.2 km away, with a low daily rate set by the city, and there is paid parking nearby. The guide to parking in Antwerp covers the P+R and the low-emission zone; the building is outside it.

Accommodation near the hospitals for a few nights or a few months

Stays run from 2 nights to 6 months per booking, which fits most hospital situations:

• A planned operation: a few nights around the admission and the first days of recovery.
• Outpatient treatment: a series of appointments over several weeks, without travelling back and forth every day.
• A long admission: a home base for relatives who take turns at the bedside.
• Medical staff and students on placement: doctors, nurses and trainees on a rotation of weeks or months. Company invoicing is available.

When Hoost is not the right choice

Our apartments do not fit every hospital stay, and it is better to know that now:

• You need to be at the bedside every night. Ask the ward first: both ZAS and UZA let one parent stay overnight in paediatrics.
• All your visits are at UZA. The building is about 3.4 km away. UZA publishes its own list of hotels nearby.
• You need a car at the door. There is no parking at the building.
• You want hotel services. There is no reception, no daily housekeeping and no meals.
• You need to register your address, stay longer than 6 months in one booking, or bring a pet.
