Part of Choosing where to stay
Serviced apartment, Airbnb or hotel: which suits your stay in Antwerp?
A hotel suits a few nights when you want services. An Airbnb listing suits a short stay when you accept that every host differs. A serviced apartment adds cleaning and a reception to a furnished home. For a week or more in Antwerp, a plain furnished apartment with a kitchen is often enough, like our serviced apartments in Antwerp.

You have found a hotel, an Airbnb listing and something called a serviced apartment, all in Antwerp and all for your dates. They look alike in the photos, but they run very differently once you arrive. This guide compares what each one really includes.
What is a serviced apartment, and how is it different from Airbnb?
A serviced apartment is a furnished apartment rented with hotel-style services. The Cambridge Dictionary definition of serviced names cleaning and a reception as examples. Airbnb, by contrast, is a booking platform: a listing can be a spare room, a private flat or a professionally run apartment.
That difference matters more than the labels. When you compare Airbnb vs a serviced apartment, you are comparing one product with a marketplace. Two Airbnb listings on the same street can differ in cleaning, check-in, house rules and how quickly the host replies. A serviced apartment operator usually runs every unit to the same standard.
A third category often gets mixed in: the furnished apartment. It has the home part (kitchen, bedrooms, furniture, linen) without the hotel part (reception, daily cleaning). That is what Hoost offers. Our four apartments are also listed on Airbnb, which shows how much the categories overlap. For the wider picture of where to stay in Antwerp, including the areas, read our pillar guide.
Airbnb vs serviced apartment vs hotel: what is included?
A hotel includes the most services, a serviced apartment includes a home plus some services, and an Airbnb listing includes whatever its host offers. The table below compares the usual pattern with a Hoost stay, using only facts we can confirm for Hoost.
What each type of stay usually includes
| Hotel | Airbnb listing | Serviced apartment | Hoost furnished apartment | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kitchen | Rarely | Often | Yes | Yes, with cooking basics |
| Separate bedrooms | Extra rooms needed | Varies | Often | 1 or 2 bedrooms, double bed in each |
| Cleaning | Usually daily | Set by the host | Regular, set by the operator | Per booking; extra roughly every two weeks on request |
| Reception | Yes | No | Often | No; self check-in with a lockbox |
| Workspace | Varies | Varies | Often | Desk, Wi-Fi and Ethernet |
| Laundry | Paid service | Varies | Often | Shared washer and dryer in the building |
| Length of stay | Nights | Nights to weeks | Weeks to months | 2 nights to 6 months per booking |
| Company invoice | Usually | Varies | Usually | Yes |
Two checks apply to every option. In Flanders, anyone who houses people for payment must register the accommodation with Toerisme Vlaanderen. Vlaanderen.be confirms this also covers occasional rentals through online platforms. And no short stay replaces a home address: the city of Antwerp requires a new resident to report their address within 8 working days. You cannot register your address during a Hoost stay.
Is a serviced apartment or Airbnb better for families?
For families, the deciding factor is separate bedrooms and a kitchen, not the label. A hotel family room puts everyone in one space, and children’s bedtimes then set the evening for the adults. An apartment with two bedrooms lets parents sit at the table after the children are asleep.
Check three things whichever option you choose:
- Beds. Ask how many real beds there are. A sofa bed for the second adult wears thin after a few nights.
- Baby gear. A cot and a high chair save luggage. Hoost has both on request.
- Outdoor space. Our first-floor apartment with terrace has two bedrooms and a terrace with a table. The ground floor has a private garden but only one bedroom.
A hotel still wins for families on a two-night city break who want breakfast served. From about four nights, an apartment usually feels more relaxed.
Which accommodation suits your stay in Antwerp?
The best accommodation for your stay in Antwerp follows from your length of stay and purpose. Use this as a quick guide:
- One to three nights of sightseeing: a hotel in the historic centre. You stay near the sights and get full service.
- A weekend with family or friends: an apartment with separate bedrooms. Hoost takes bookings from two nights.
- One to four weeks for work: a furnished apartment with a real desk. Every Hoost apartment has a desk with Ethernet, on a Telenet fibre connection.
- One to six months: a furnished apartment with laundry and bills included. At Hoost, electricity, heating and water are included; city tax is charged separately.
- A team on a project: several apartments in one building. Hoost has four, with up to 7 people in their own bedroom.
For business trips, the comparison of corporate housing or a hotel goes deeper into invoicing and team stays. Staying longer than a few months? The guide on a short-term lease or a furnished stay explains when a rental contract makes more sense.
When Hoost is not the right choice
Hoost runs four furnished apartments in Antwerp South, near Middelheim Park. That makes us a good fit for some stays and a poor fit for others. Book something else if:
- you want a reception, breakfast or daily cleaning: a hotel or a serviced apartment gives you that;
- you want to stay in the historic centre: the old town is a tram ride from our building;
- you need to register your address: that needs a lease;
- you need parking on the property: there is none; P+R Olympiade, about 0.2 km away, has a low daily rate set by the city;
- you stay one night, or longer than 6 months in one booking: the minimum is two nights;
- you bring a pet: pets are not allowed.
If your stay fits, our pillar on choosing a place to stay in Antwerp helps you settle the area and the dates.
Frequently asked questions
Is an aparthotel the same as a serviced apartment?
Close, but not quite. An aparthotel is a hotel building with apartments instead of rooms, usually with a reception. Serviced apartments can also be spread over ordinary residential buildings.
Are Hoost's apartments on Airbnb?
Yes, all four are listed there. Airbnb is a booking channel, not a type of home, which is why the labels in this guide overlap.
Is city tax included in the price at Hoost?
No. Electricity, heating and water are included; city tax is charged separately.
Does Hoost ask for a deposit?
No. Hoost does not ask for a deposit. Bookings are confirmed in writing, with a strict cancellation policy.
